NEW BRITAIN - Now officially into the second half of its season, the Innovation girls volleyball team was looking to start anew, according to head coach Matt Lance.

The Ravens got off to a good start in that regard on Wednesday, sweeping Wheeler (25-15, 25-15, 25-19) to move to .500 on the season as a whole, and start the ‘new’ season off with a convincing win.

“We’re in the second half of the season, and we’re just trying to be more consistency in our play,” Lance said. “We’re trying to keep tings steady even when we don’t have our best, and I think we did a good job of that today.”

Keshliani Hidalgo helped maintain consistency with a team-high nine kills, while Molly Corcoran served up four aces and 16 assists. Kenya Hernandez added seven digs in the winning effort.

Bristol Eastern 3, Southington 0: The Blue Knights had no answer for the undefeated Lancers on Wednesday, falling in three straight sets (25-12, 25-14, 25-21) on their home floor.

Brooke Cooney picked up five kills and 10 digs for Southington, while Kayley Smith added seven digs of her own in the lopsided loss.

GIRLS SOCCER

RHAM 2, Berlin 1: Kylie Jefferson, just one day removed from a two-goal game against Middletown, stayed hot with a goal less than three minutes into Wednesday’s contest, but RHAM tied it 10 minutes later and ultimately pulled out a 2-1 victory over the Redcoats.

Natalie Chorzepa picked up seven saves in the losing effort, but the Sachems put home the game-winner with 13 minutes left on the clock, though Berlin came away confident in its level of play in the narrow loss.

“If the girls continue to play at this level and we start getting some breaks to go our way, we will be dangerous come tournament time,” head coach Alex Joslyn said.
