FARMINGTON - The next time the Berlin girls basketball team steps on the court it will be the first time this season it won’t be following a win.

Lyzi Litwinko tied for the game-high in points with 21, but it wasn’t enough to lift the Redcoats past Farmington on Thursday night in a 48-45 loss, ending Berlin’s winning streak at nine. The Indians are now 3-7.

“Farmington played a very solid defensive game and hit some key baskets,” Redcoats head coach Sheila King said.

No other Berlin player reached double figures. Wynter Yovan was second with nine points and Carly Grega added eight. Callie Gendron pulled down 10 rebounds.

But it was the Redcoats’ slow start that ultimately proved to be the costliest. The Indians held Berlin to five points in the first quarter and 15 points at the half. The Redcoats managed to score 29 points over the final 16 minutes of play, but Farmington held tight with 30 points of its own.

Emma Novajasky led the Indians with 21 points, while Daria Fournier added 11.

Berlin will next play at home on Tuesday night against Simsbury.

Terryville 55, Innovation 49: The Ravens had their highest scoring output of the season, it just wasn’t enough to overcome a steady second half from the Kangaroos, who picked up their second win of the season.

Chelsea Wray-Brown scored a game-high 20 points and Te’ijah Roberts finished with 15 for Innovation, while Amy Roqi scored a team-high 19 points and Zoe Zappone contributed 12 points for Terryville.

“This was our best game overall, but we have to be better defensively,” Ravens head coach Michael Jessie said. “We can’t keep sending teams to the free throw line like we did tonight. “We have to clean that up and once we do, we’ll be better.”

The Kangaroos made 15 of their attempts from the charity stripe, while Innovation didn’t make any.

The first half was close with Terryville heading into the locker room at the end of the second quarter up one, but built up a three-point lead after three and outscored the Ravens 16-13 over the final eight minutes.
