MERIDEN - The Berlin boys basketball team knows its state tournament hopes are on the line in the final two weeks of the regular season.

The good news for the Redcoats, they’re still in the running to make the Division III tournament.

“We lived to fight another day,” Berlin head coach Mike Veneziano said. “We still got a pulse no matter how small.’

Danny Lynch scored a game-high 18 points, including five 3-pointers, and Jeff Madeia finished with a double-double (14 points and 11 rebounds) to go along with five assists as the Redcoats beat Platt 54-44 on Friday.

Overall, Berlin (5-12) made eight shots from behind the arc and controlled the game for the first three quarters. The Redcoats led 17-10 after one, 31-18 at the half and 50-25 after three thanks to a 19-point third quarter.

The Panthers (1-16) attempted to make a comeback in the fourth, outscoring Berlin 19-4, but by then, it was too little too late.

Tre Carter led Platt with 17 points.
