BERLIN – The 11th induction class to the Berlin High School Athletic Hall of Fame will have to wait another year to be enshrined.
The Hall of Fame’s Board of Directors announced on Friday morning that the Hall of Fame’s annual induction dinner has been postponed until 2021, becoming the latest local event to be impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. The ceremony, originally scheduled for April 26 before being postponed back in March, is now tentatively scheduled for April 11, 2021.
“The Board would like to apologize for any inconvenience this decision may create,” Friday’s press release said. “But it was made with the utmost caution regarding the safety of everyone traveling to and attending the event, those working to plan the dinner, and those working at the dinner venue.”
Whether this 2020 class will be inducted with an additional class for 2021 has yet to be determined. The event is scheduled to take place at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville.
Those who have already paid for dinners or advertisements for the 2020 event can ask for a full refund or apply the payment to next year’s rescheduled date. For more information, visit bhshalloffame.org.
The honorees include John Steurer, Cynthia Gozzo Dastoli, Robert Manzo, Matt Carasiti, Allison Murphy Semenuk, Philip Peretta, Steve Baccaro and the 1999 and 2000 wrestling teams.
