AVON - The New Britain girls basketball team got off to a slow start against Avon in what ended as a 38-31 loss Tuesday evening. The Hurricanes trailed by nine points at halftime and were not able to recover with a low scoring effort.
Only five New Britain players scored in the game and Maya Slisz was the only one to reach double digits as she knocked down a pair of triples on her way to 14 points, she also finished with six rebounds.
The Hurricanes will return home for their next game Friday when they host Farmington at 5:30.
Newington 57, Platt 24: The Newington girls basketball team remains undefeated as it picks up a blowout win over Platt. Everyone had the opportunity to contribute as 12 different players scored for Newington, led by junior Lilly Ferguson who scored 14 points to go along with four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
All of Platt’s points came from just two players as Ja’Lexia West finished with 14 points and Wallica Bailey put up the other 10.
Newington’s next game is Wednesday afternoon at home against Maloney.
Goodwin Tech 36, Cheney Tech 16: The Gladiators put forth a strong defensive effort to start their season on a three-game winning streak. Ava Hernandez led the way on offense with nine points.
The Beavers never scored more than six points in a quarter and a Haley Pierce free throw was the only point they found in the second quarter.
Goodwin Tech will look to stay unbeaten when they travel to Vinal Tech on Friday for a 4 p.m. matchup.
Berlin 57, Bulkeley 18: The Berlin boys basketball team picked up its second win of the season in a dominant performance over Bulkeley. No one on Bulkeley finished the game with more than one made field goal as the Redcoats finished the game with a 57-18 win Tuesday night.
Michael Ciarcia and Sal Dastoli led the way for Berlin with 12 and 11, respectively, they also contributed all three of their team’s three-pointers. Ryan Steck and Jon D’Amore posted solid performances as well, tying for the team lead with seven rebounds.
Up next for the Redcoats is a road game against Rocky Hill on Thursday at 6:45 p.m.
Cheney Tech 57, Goodwin Tech 50: The Gladiators dropped a close game against undefeated Cheney Tech. Xavier Cartagena and Sean Martin each notched 12 points in the loss highlighted by a pair of threes from Cartagena.
Six players on the Beavers finished with at least five points led by 12 from Anthony Lazure and 11 from Eli Quiles.
Goodwin Tech’s next game is at home Friday at 5:30 p.m. against Vinal Tech.
