Roundup: Bristol Central girls hang on for win

MIDDLETOWN - Bristol Central worked out a hard-fought win over Middletown, winning 8-7 Friday night.

BC’s Emily Lowe stopped 15 shots and Jenna Lowe helped seal the deal on a win with a steal in the final seconds.

“The defense and Emily played well all night, and our offense did just enough to pull out the win. We definitely showed some rust but I am so proud of the effort our girls put forward tonight,” said Kyle Phelan. “Sadye (Kowalczyk) has been phenomenal for us all season and came up with a huge goal late in the game.”

Madison Secor, Lexi Michaud and Sydney Rodriguez each scored in the win.

Softball

Housatonic 22, Terryville 6: Housatonic beat Terryville Friday 22-6 in five innings.

Terryville’s two runs in the first had the Kangaroos looking good, holding advantage through the first frame. But an eight-run top of the second inning quickly swing the momentum and another four runs in the top of the third had Terryville scrambling for runs.

A lone run by Terryville in the third cut the score to 12-3, Housatonic leading, but a 10-run fourth inning have Housatonic more to its lead.

Three runs in the bottom of the fifth was not enough to cut the game inside the run-rule, ending it in five innings.

Tiffany Pires pitched three innings for Terryville, striking out four.

Innovation 30, Prince Tech 19: Innovation and Prince Tech duked it out to a final score of 30-19 Friday night, Innovation coming out on top.

Innvoation had 12 hits and five errors, but was on the benefitting end of a 15-run third inning. Already leading big, a Kaylee Dobransky walk off home run in bottom of the sixth inning sealed the deal.

Dobransky also hit a grand slam in the win, finishing with nine RBIs. Nia Largent had two hits with 6 RBI’s.

Volleyball

New Britain 3, Bulkeley 0: New Britain volleyball picked up its first win of the season Friday night, rolling over Bulkeley 3-0.

NB took three sets 25-8, 25-8 and 25-15.

Lexus Sanchez posted five kills and Davin Siharath had 20 service points, nine aces and five digs.

Baseball

Berlin 13, Middletown 1: Berlin beat Middletown Friday night 13-1.

Harrison Lombardi’s two-hit complete game helped the Redcoats on the way to the win. Jamie Palamese helped drive in two runs, going 3-for-4 and Ben Schulz went 2-for 2 with two runs scored and three runs driven in.

Southington 2, Farmington 0: Southington prevailed in a low-scoring affair Friday night, winning 2-0 over Farmington.

A two-run homer from Jack McManus was the go-ahead and deciding factor in the game.

Vin Borgese went the distance for Southington, pitching seven innings while allowing two hits. He walked one and struck out seven

Girls golf

Manchester 210, Plainville 218: Manchester defeated Plainville Friday night in a score of 210-218.

Despite the meet loss, Plainville’s Julia Smith took home the medal with a meet-low 42. Kaylee Markavich’s 55 was the next lowest for Plainville while Caitlin Charest’s 56 was just off her pace.

Te’a Autunno shot a 65 to round out the team’s scoring.
