BERLIN -- Goals from Kylie Jefferson, Julia Salina and Sam Negrao lifted Berlin girls soccer over E.O. Smith, 3-1, Tuesday at Scalise Field.
All three strikes occurred in the first half of play before the Redcoats allowed a goal late in regulation. The victory comes after a 1-1-1 start to the 2021 season.
"Hands down, best game we've played so far," Berlin coach Alex Joslyn said. "Obviously the season didn't start the way we wanted against Maloney [2-1 loss], but we responded so well the last three games."
Jefferson tucked in the game's first goal for the Redcoats in the 26th minute after a cross-box pass from Jenna Wenzel.
Berlin doubled its lead to 2-0 after Salina capitalized on some clean passes just outside the box, before Negrao beat the buzzer with a tally with less than 20 seconds left in the half.
The Redcoats held strong during a physical 40 minutes of action in the second half to claim their second win of the season.
"Our identity has been to be a physical team and we kind of lost that the last couple of games," Joslyn said. "We wanted to come out physical and we wanted to move that ball, two, three-touch, which we did.
"Everybody contributed," Joslyn said. "Everyone got in and everyone did a great job. Couldn't be more proud of every single girl."
Berlin (2-1-1) will next travel to Middletown on Friday, with kickoff slated for 3:45 p.m.
