Palmese runs wild in Berlin's win over New Britain

BERLIN - Jamie Palmese rushed for four touchdowns and over 200 yards in a 51-12 win for Berlin (4-6) over New Britain (1-9) Friday night, capping off the season for both teams.

The Hurricanes started off the game drawing first blood, scoring on their second play from the line of scrimmage on a 72-yard rushing score by Diego Ortiz. A failed 2-point conversion made it 6-0.

The score came at 11:21 in the first, and it took just under a minute later for the Redcoats to respond, getting the first score from Palmese on the ground.

Palmese rushed for a 64-yard score, and with a successful extra-point, Berlin took the lead for once and for good at 7-6 with 10:25 to go in the first.

Palmese's second score came at 6:03 in the first, and with a blocked extra-point, the Redcoats went ahead 13-6.

Added insurance from the Redcoats came off the legs of Jon Jon Morales, coming from 20 yards out, before New Britain answered with a long and methodical scoring drive that spanned over 70 yards.

A Donovan Campbell keeper from 2 yards out brought the score to 19-12, with a failed 2-point conversion, keeping New Britain within striking distance in the first half.

The third Palmese score before halftime extended Berlin's lead again, with the 2-point try successful to make it 27-12. His fourth and final scoring play came on the opening drive of the second half, coming at 11:02 in the third to bring the score to 35-12.

Berlin ended the game with scores from Tanner Sparks on a 30-yard reception in the third and a Mason Memery pick-6 for 74 yards to put an exclamation point on the night and the season for Berlin.

Palmese ends his high school football career with the four scores and a 223 yard showing. Leading in passing was Toby Lavender with 92 yards passing and a score.
