ROUNDUP: New Britain's Wasik scores five goals in girls soccer win over Hartford Public

NEW BRITAIN – Tuesday afternoon the New Britain Golden Hurricanes girls soccer team hosted Hartford Public at Veterans Stadium. The Hurricanes took down Hartford by a final score of 7-0.

The bulk of the scoring was taken care of by New Britain’s senior forward Abby Wasik who ended the day with five goals. Senior midfielder Adriana Gutowska and sophomore defender Julie Clavette each added a goal as well in the victory. Sophomore midfielder Yareli Reyes was credited with assists on two of the goals.

BOYS SOCCER

Berlin boys soccer was defeated at the hands of Middletown by a score of 2-1. Michael Abayomi scored the lone goal for Berlin. The Redcoats now sit at 4-1 after Wednesday’s loss.

SWIMMING

The Berlin swim and dive team improved to 2-0 on the seam following a 94-78 win over Bristol Eastern on Wednesday. The Redcoats had seven first-place finishes including Jenna Borselle in the 200 freestyle, Suzanna Dabek in the 200 individual medley, Molly Szczesniak in both the 50 and 100 freestyle, Addison Szczesniak in the 100 fly, Olivia Marolda in the 500 freestyle and Paige Kemish in the 100 breaststroke.

VOLLEYBALL

New Britain girls volleyball defeated Middletown on the road in three games on Wednesday, 25-16, 25-17, 25-10. 

The win was behind nine kills and four aces from Kasianna Denmark. Kelly Alape added 19 assists on the afternoon.

The win gave New Britain a 4-2 record before their matchup with Windsor on Thursday.

Innovation volleyball fell to Bulkeley in five sets on Wednesday. Innovation is now 4-1 and were highlighted by Patrice Broughton with 10 kills, 15 digs and five aces. Madison Ramos contributed seven aces and 15 digs. Tynise Rose added 17 digs and nine kills.

Bulkeley was led by Ishlamar Morales in the victory with three kills, three digs, three assists and four aces. Danielys Ortiz added seven kills and two aces while Allys Freitas collected three apiece.

The Berlin Redcoats took down Tolland in four sets, 25-17, 25-21, 18-25, 25-19. The Redcoats are now 4-2 while Tolland drops to 2-4.

Berlin saw big contributions from Alivia Halkias with seven kills, seven aces and 10 digs. Ella Pappa finished the day with 10 kills, one ace and three digs. Charley Carlson was credited with two kills, seven aces, 15 service points and six digs.
