BRISTOL - In a wild game at Muzzy Field on Sunday night, the Bristol Blues defeated the league-leading Brockton Rox 11-7 for their seventh victory in the last nine games.
Bristol fell behind 3-0 early in the contest, but put up six runs in the third inning to take command of the game.
Every member of Bristol’s lineup contributed to a suddenly surging offense: Max Goione (2-for-6, 1 RBI), Jake Frasca (2-for-4, 1 run, 1 RBI), Mitch Guilmette (2-for-5, 2 runs, 1 RBI), Cooper Mrowka (2-for-5, 1 run, 2 RBI), Ben Maycock (1-for-3, 2 runs), Mitch Williams (2-for-4, 2 runs, 1 RBI), Jeff Shanfeldt (2-for-4, 3 RBI), Josh Zbierski (1-for-4, 2 runs) and Chris Davis (3-for-5, 1 run, 1 RBI).
Blues relief pitchers John Natoli and Jacob Wallace combined to allow just two runs, one earned, over the final four innings as Bristol held on to its lead.
In the bottom of the third, Frasca began the big rally with a leadoff double, Guilmette took first, then Mrowka singled and everyone took an extra base with a run scoring on an outfield error. Maycock walked to load the bases with no outs before Williams drew a walk to force in the second run of the inning. Then Shanfeldt delivered a two-run single for a 5-3 Blues lead at that point.
A fielder’s choice left runners on first and third with one out, then Davis belted a two-run double to double Bristol’s lead to 7-3.
