The influx of new talent onto the roster has apparently injected some immediate life into the Bristol Blues.
After losing four consecutive games, the Blues on Wednesday evening stopped the bleeding with a 3-0 win over the Worcester Bravehearts.
Starter Mark Faello threw seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
Matt Shane, a CCSU product who just joined the team Tuesday after the Blue Devils’ run to the NCAA Tournament’s Fayetteville Regional, then came on in relief and - at least for one night - solved the bullpen issues that have plagued the Blues over the last two weeks.
Shane pitched a shutout 1-2-3 inning in the eighth to help the Blues (4-7) end their losing skid, and closer Will Nowak was terrific again, picking up the save with three strikeouts in the ninth.
Also helping Bristol was the arrival of Shane’s CCSU teammate, catcher Sam Loda, whose leadoff single in the second inning gave way to a walk drawn by JT Mounce, a new arrival from Texas.
After the two reached base, Anthony D’Onofrio unloaded a two-run double for a 2-0 lead, and in the eighth, D’Onofrio scored an insurance run on a bases-loaded passed ball. Loda’s single and D’Onofrio’s double were Bristol’s lone hits of the game.
The Blues will now make a trip to take on the Brockton Rox at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
