Central Connecticut women's basketball routed by ACC opponent Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Central Connecticut women’s basketball team fell to ACC opponent Virginia 103-59 on Sunday afternoon at John Paul Jones Arena.

Junior scored a game-high 19 points and had a game-high four assists to lead the Blue Devils (0-2).

Virginia (1-1) ran off on an 8-0 run to start the game before rookie found junior on a dive down the heart of the Cavalier zone for an easy lay-in. Patterson then snuck in to the corner for a three-pointer off the inbounds.

Two 2017-18 newcomers, graduate and freshman , connected on back-to-back buckets in the final minute of the first quarter. Johnson opened the second quarter with another three-point field goal at 9:45.

Patterson netted a trio of consecutive three-pointers proceeding the media timeout forcing Virginia to call a timeout late in the second quarter.

CCSU struggled from the field in the third quarter, going 1-for-11, as UVA outscored the Blue Devils 22-7.

CCSU returns to New Britain on Thursday to play Brown in its home opener at 7 p.m. inside William H. Detrick Gymnasium.
