BRISTOL - The CCSU womenâ€™s basketball team continued its less than desirable start to the season with a 68-52 loss to Hartford on Wednesday. With this loss the Blue Devils are still searching for their first win of the season and dropped to 0-8.
Morgan JohnsonÂ hit on four three-pointers to lead CCSU with a season-high 13 points. She also added four rebounds and two assistsÂ in 25 minutes.
The game got off to a fast-paced start. Johnson went 2-for-2 from three point range to start the game and found teammate Andi Lydon for CCSUâ€™s third three of the opening quarter atÂ the 4:41 mark.
While it was a strong start, the Hawks Janelle Harrison went 5-for-6 from the field leading to 11 first quarter points helping the Hawks get out to a 23-11 lead at the end of the first.
The second quarter went better for the Blue Devils as they were outscored by only four points.
But, the first quarter still had Hartford leading 40-24 at the end of the first half.
The Blue Devils shot 55.6 percent from three-point range on 5-of-9 shooting. However, they shot just 28.6 percent from the floor.
Johnson led CCSU with 10 first half points while Harrison put up 13 points for the Hawks.
Hartford finished 17-of-36 (.472) from the field in the first half.
Early in the second half, CCSU forced three Hartford turnovers and four personal fouls as it held the Hawks scoreless for the firstÂ 5:07 of the second half.
With the lack of scoring, the Blue Devils cut the deficit down to 10 points and Johnson connected on her fourth three of the night.
Although, the comeback didnâ€™t last long as Hartford responded with a 14-7 run and finished the third quarter strong.
The Hawks entered the final quarter of play with a 54-37 lead.
While the Blue Devils outscored Hartford in the final quarter, it wasnâ€™t enough to make up for the other three.
Throughout the game, the Hawks scored 33 points off of Centralâ€™s 26 turnovers.
Three players tallied double digit scoring nights for the Hawks led by a season-high and game-high 19 points from Harrison. Hartford junior Lindsey Abed also hit a feat with a career-high 11 rebounds, matching her previous mark.
For CCSU, Kiana Patterson finished with 10 points including being perfect from the foul line, hitting all seven attempts.
Lydon added nine points and led the Blue Devils with seven rebounds.
CCSU will return home looking for its first win against Yale onÂ Saturday, Dec. 11 at 1:00 p.m.
