CCSU men's basketball drops close game to LIU-Brooklyn, winless in February

The Central Connecticut State men’s basketball team is having a rough February as it just suffered its fifth straight loss to start this month.

Ty Flowers had 26 points and 11 rebounds as Long Island-Brooklyn edged past the Blue Devils 81-79 on Sunday.

Zach Newkirk scored a career-high 20 points for the Blue Devil while Myles Baker added 17 points and eight rebounds for CCSU. Stephane Ayangma had 11 points and nine rebounds.

Jermaine Jackson Jr. added 24 points for the Sharks, including the clinching free throws with six seconds left. Baker hit a 3-pointer as time expired for the Blue Devils.

CCSU shot better than 45 percent from the field as a team while the Sharks hovered around 37 percent, but CCSU failed to make the run that secured a lead.

The Blue Devils fall to 4-15 on the season with their final regular season series approaching Thursday and Friday against Wagner

Virshon Cotton had seven rebounds for Long Island-Brooklyn and Jack Ballantyne added 12 rebounds.

The Sharks improved to 2-0 against the Blue Devils for the season as they picked up an 87-74 last Saturday.
