Central Connecticut State women’s soccer made it four Northeast Conference titles in a row Sunday afternoon, clinching the conference title with a 3-0 win over Farleigh Dickinson to earn an automatic bid for the Div. I NCAA Tournament.
The go-ahead and deciding goal of the game came just under the 15 minute mark, with Roma McLaughlin netting a goal to make it 1-0. Jamie Collimore scored in the 41 minute mark to extend the lead to 2-0 and Zo McGlynn added another in the 63rd minute to make it 3-0.
McGlynn was named the tournament MVP for her performance over the weekend.
As they have all season, the Blue Devils out-shot their opponent at 20-6. CCSU had 12 shots go on goal to Farleigh’s five.
Amanda McQuillan shopped five shots in net, not seeing a shot come her way until 28 minutes into the game. It’s her eighth shutout this season and 17th all-time.
McQuillan, McLaughlin, McGlynn and Sydnee Dorman were named to the All-Tournament team following the win.
The conference title is the 12th in program history and the second time CCSU has run off four in a row, the first time coming from 2002 to 2005. Head coach Mick D’Arcy has won 10 NEC titles with the program, which holds the most all-time in conference history.
The win also marks the 26th straight home win against conference opponents.
Next up for Central is No. 3 Georgetown (12-1-6), the Big East Conference champions who also received an automatic bid.
The tournament kicks off at noon on Nov. 13 for Central, in Washington D.C. against the Hoyas.
Notable results for Georgetown include a regular season finale 1-0 loss to UConn, who CCSU lost to 2-1 to open the season. CCSU was scheduled to play St. Johns, who Georgetown beat 1-0 in October, but the game was cancelled.
