Parents, we always try to tell our kids to do the right thing and choose wisely, donāt we? And donāt we also try with all of our might, energy and heart to get our children to become good citizens who are kind to others? We tell our kids a thousand times how to behave and how to treat others. Thatās just what we do as parents. And we do all of this to and beyond exhaustion, day in and day out, right?
Well, guess what, parents? I think I have a better way for us parents to help make our children be the good, successful children that we want them to be. I think itās better as parents if we work smarter instead of harder, donāt you? One way to work smarter is through our own modeling of social emotional intelligence and through setting a good example for our kids to follow.
Parents, we are human. And because we are human, we have flaws. But, regardless, our kids still look up to us for guidance and direction, and will eventually mimic some of our behaviors. Whether they know it or not, or even if we know it or not, we parents are in that special spot that all kids want to be in so badly. Weāre all grown up! And thatās exactly what they want. They want to be all grown up just like we are. So, with that in mind, letās emphasize here that since they want to be like us, what we do really matters. How we conduct ourselves and carry out our own social emotional intelligence truly matters because itās going to affect our kids for the rest of their lives.
Now, as my Granddaddy always said, āGo learn, lead and lay the way to a better world for all of us.ā Social emotional parenting is the āinā thing. So, letās make sure that we get in with the āinā thing! Remember, our kids are watching us very closely. And once again parents, thanks in advance for all that you do, and all that you will doā¦
