To The Editor:
The pressing issue of gun violence in schools and on campuses around the country is currently being addressed by United States legislators, and with the community’s support, can get passed before the year’s end.
H.R. 4909, otherwise known as the STOP School Violence Act of 2018, currently sits in the United States Senate and is awaiting the support of your elected officials.
Garnering bipartisan support when passed in the House on a vote of 407-10, the bill lays out a grant program which would provide federal stipends to schools, local governments, and Native American tribes. This would provide them with increased security measures and deterrent technologies, including metal detectors and increased safety training.
Our senators now hold the power to pass the bill into law, and it is up to the communities across Connecticut to voice their support for this legislation.
