Dear Newington High School Graduate,

Congratulations on your graduation from Newington High School as a member of the class of 2020!

You have made Newington very proud and I am proud to represent some of the brightest and hardest working students in the state of Connecticut.

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the completion of your high school experience presented you with unprecedented challenges that I know resulted in hardships and some sadness from a lack of a true senior year and graduation experience. However, this experience has also taught you numerous new life lessons of sacrifice and strength I believe will help aid you throughout your life and as the future leaders of our society. President John Adams once said, “Every problem is an opportunity in disguise.”

You are certainly leaving high school at a time when we are facing many problems, but I ask you to see them as opportunities - opportunities to make our world an even better place to live in. Whether you will be continuing your education or entering the workforce, our community will rely on your ideas and resilience to move past our current crisis and forge a better path forward. I encourage you to stay active and involved in our community here in Newington if you currently are. If not, it is never too late to start. Register to vote, express your thoughts and opinions, and work to ensure you help create the changes we need and you believe in.

I wish you the best of luck and success, as you embark on your next life journey. If I can assist you in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me.
