To the Editor:

After my recent shopping visit to Stop & Shop Berlin I was surprised to learn the policy of Stop & Shop for masks wearing was voluntary and not mediatory.

I saw three young adults together in the store without any masks. I approached a floor employee and bought to his attention the there without masks and was told, “they won’t listen to me,” you need a manager. I went to the customer service desk and ask if the mask wearing was mandatory and was told yes. But when I explained what I saw I was told because they “may have health conditions” which prevents mask wearing Stop & Shop says they can’t even approach them to ask.

So the point is that the policy is in fact NOT mandatory but voluntary. Now that I know the policy I suggest that Stop & shop post the true policy for all to see. This will allow each customer to determine if a store that can’t enforce a mask wearing policy is one which we should support. Thank you.
