To the Editor:

The federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour and has not been raised since 2009. Individuals working 40 hours a week at that amount cannot support themselves let alone their families. That’s why Connecticut and other states have upped the wage minimum toward a more living wage.

Thanks to state Rep. Rick Lopes and his colleagues, our minimum wage in Connecticut, now stands at $12.00 per hour and is slated to move to $15.00 per hour over the next few years. This is one of the reasons why Rep. Rick Lopes gets my vote for state senator.

Mr. Lopes is a small business owner who meets a payroll every week and recognizes the value of paying a decent wage to his employees. In eight years as state representative in the 24th House District, Rick has pushed for enactment of raising the minimum wage and stands with working people on affordable health care and the family medical leave protections.

On November 3rd he deserves to be elected to the state senate.
