NEW BRITAIN-For two years dozens of customers at Miss Washington Diner have tried to tackle the Ultimate Omelet Challenge, but failed. On Monday, however, a champion has been named.

Manny “the Manimal” Cambra, a competitive eater from Bethel, earned himself the title by consuming the dozen-egg-omelet filled with ham, bacon, sausage, corn beef hash, onions, tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms cheddar and American cheeses and hash browns.

Those who succeed the challenge will get the meal for free, their picture on the wall and a t-shirt made.

If omelets are not your thing, the diner also has the “Monument Challenge,” a burger comprised of four half pound patties topped with four bacon strips, American, Swiss provolone and cheddar cheeses, two onion rings, A1 sauce, lettuce, tomato and a pickle.

Since taking ownership of the diner in 2011, Dan Czako implemented the food competitions for a fun.

Although he’s not a competitive eater himself, he loves food and can appreciate all those that are or willing to try it.

“Once people see one person has done it, it makes it possible for other people” Czako said. He encourages everyone to give the challenges a shot.

Miss Washington Diner is located on 10 Washington St. It is opened Monday through Saturday 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
