HARTFORD-Former chief of staff for the City of New Britain will join Chicago-based Mesirow Financial as managing director for New England market.

John Healey served as the chief of staff for Mayor Erin Stewart from November 2013 to 2015. Afterward, he took a position as the vice president of Municipal Securities Group/Global Investment Banking at William Blair.

Mesirow Financial announced Tuesday that Healey and Richard Thivierge-well-known New England banker team-will join its company in order to continue its strategic expansion of its Public Finance group.

Based in Hartford, Healey and Thivierge will serve as managing directors focused on providing custom finance solutions and debt offerings for municipalities and other governmental entities and expanding the firm’s presence in the New England market.

Thivierge also joins Mesirow Financial from William Blair, where he most recently served as managing director in the Infrastructure Investment Banking group and led the New England office. Thivierge has 43 years of experience, and through his career he has played a role in creating three different investment funds for municipal use, and was able to work with municipalities in issuing forward swaps, swaps and funding of other unfunded liabilities.

“We are excited to expand our public finance business with the addition of John and Richard as highly regarded bankers in the southern New England region and look forward to serving more municipal clients across the United States,” head of Mesirow Financial’s Public Finance group, Todd Waldrop, said.

Mesirow Financial specializes in investment, risk management and advisory services. The Public Finance team provides professional services to a diverse group of public sector clients with regional bankers located in six major U.S. cities.
