NEW BRITAIN - It’s back! By popular demand, the Polish-American Happy Hour is returning after a three-year hiatus.

The first of the new Happy Hours will be Thursday, Sept. 28, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the Alvarium Beer Co., 365 John Downey Drive, Suite B, New Britain. Admission is free, with cash bar and beer specials.

The Happy Hour is a monthly social networking event for Polish and American professionals in New Britain and surrounding areas.

Jacek Mikolajczyk, founder and organizer of the networking event, hosted it for almost four years before taking a break while changing his career from photography to real estate. Now well established as a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, he finds he has the time to revive the regular gathering.

“It’s time-consuming and I usually spend money from my own pocket for these events, so it’s time now where I can actually do that again,” he said. “People were always calling me asking when the next one would be. That’s why I decided to finally organize this again.”

The Happy Hour used to move around  the area, he said.

“We did restaurants, businesses. Sometimes when they had grand openings, we did the Happy Hour there. It brings in more people, so we’re open for that again. That’s why I selected the brewery, because it’s a new business, so we will try to bring in people who have never actually been there before to see what they can offer.”

“For the next one, I will decide very soon where it will be hosted,” he continued. “It could be the same place, we’ll see how it goes this time. If we have a lot of people there and they enjoy the place we will do it again.”

In the past, the Happy Hour would draw between 50 and 350 people, Mikolajczyk said. “It was very popular, the whole idea is we bring businesses together. Usually we have politicians, too. The mayor [Erin Stewart] is a regular; she confirmed she will be there this time after 8 o’clock.”

Despite its name, the event is “100 percent in English,” he commented. “That was the original name. I probably should rename it but for now it will stay like that. It’s for business owners, students - everyone 21 years or older, so they can drink.”

“If anyone wants to host the Happy Hour or sponsor the raffle prizes, they should contact me. It’s good publicity for business owners in the area. We really have very, very good connections with business people, helping people to connect,” he said.

Mikolajczyk said the event is usually held on the last Thursday of the month unless it coincides with a holiday or other significant event.

He said he is working on a new website for the even,  but in the meantime, people can check his Facebook page at  for updates.
