SOUTHINGTON - Six new members of the Southington Chamber of Commerce gathered at Comfort Suites Wednesday to meet other members.

Taylor Crofton, interim executive director of the chamber, introduced each new member and presented them with a plaque welcoming them. About a half-dozen chamber members including board members stopped at each table to ask what each business or nonprofit organization was about.

This was the third New Member Showcase and the first which Crofton led after the departure of Liz Hyatt, the previous executive director who founded the event. It, like all chamber events, was created to provide local businesses the chance to network with one another to grow their business.

Participants included Joanne C. Kelleher, director of the Early Childhood Collaborative of Southington, Eric Rothstein of Apple Valley Veterinarians, Joe Boisvert, owner of JB Webtech LLC, Charlene Shannon, branch manager at RMS Residential Mortgage Services, Charlotte Stowe, independent distributor with Zija and Dr. Julie Sheen, optometrist with Eye Life Vision Center.

Crofton began by welcoming the participants and thanked them for coming.

“These six businesses are staples in the community and have brought vitality to the Southington economy,” she said.

Of the Early Childhood Collaborative, Crofton said that the group works diligently to provide young children with a “nice, bright future.”

Apple Valley Veterin-arians, Crofton pointed out, has been in town since the 1970s.

“On their website they list how long their employees have been with them,” she said. “It is not often that companies recognize their employees like that and it shows what type of organization they are. These days, people don’t like to stick around if you’re not a great company.”

Crofton said that JB Webtech LLC can help people with “all their computer needs.”

“They’ll help you even if it is just a silly cord that fell out of the back of your router that you didn’t see and they have the skills to handle much more serious problems too,” she joked.

On Eye Life, Crofton said that the owners have a “unique approach.”

“They have taken the fashion industry and incorporated it into medicine,” she said. “They want to sure that each client not only has their vision taken care of but is comfortable with the way they look out in the world.”

Crofton explained how Zija provides customers with Ameo essential oils with a variety of therapeutic uses and noted that Stowe is also the owner of Charlotte’s Sewing Shop in Plainville.

“She bailed me out when someone I knew waited until the last minute to get their wedding dress hemmed,” said Crofton.

Finally, Crofton noted how RMS Mortgage, which is based in Maine, has been doing business all throughout the state. They help people to navigate the process of securing a home loan.

“I love their catchphrase - ‘we’ll help you get home,’” Crofton said.
