NEW BRITAIN - The manager of the city’s recently opened O’Reilly Auto Parts store manager is a New Britain native.

Peggy Baez had been manager of the first O’Reilly location in Connecticut, which opened in Wethersfield in 2015. Now she gets to work in her hometown.

The New Britain O’Reilly’s opened on June 29 and is one of 17 in the state.

It is in the Four Star Shopping Center at 200 Allen St., in the building that was the home of Family Dollar until 2013. The building had been vacant until O’Reilly Auto Parts leased tit.

O’Reilly’s plan is to open 11 to 19 stores in Connecticut within the next three years, Tom Harrington, O’Reilly Auto Parts’ regional manager, said. A store in Bristol is set to open on Sept. 1.

The New Britain store will hold its official grand opening Saturday.

Festivities start at 11 a.m. and include a car show. Also on tap: food, giveaways, items for sale, and Mega Radio (101.7 FM) on location live.

Baez said one of the biggest challenges the business is facing so far is that a lot of people don’t know of the new location. She also said there are several competitors in the area, including AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts and NAPA.

Baez said she has a good team and the store is fully staffed. The store has 14 employees, including drivers and a commercial manager.

‚ÄúEverybody is great, everybody is excited,‚ÄĚ Baez said.

The company sells parts, and it does not have a service department, but it recommends local shops to customers and offers deals to those that buy or order parts from O’Reilly.

Among the automotive items sold by O’Reilly Auto Parts are brake pads, radiators, filters, timing chains, exhaust systems, and batteries, Baez said. O’Reilly’s also sells a full range of motor oils.

The company has a warehouse in Wethersfield, and orders placed before 11:30 a.m. will arrive at the store on the same day.

The distribution center is in Massachusetts.

O’Reilly Auto Parts also has a partnership with Mitchell 1, a provider of software service and repair information to the automotive industry.
