NEW BRITAIN – A local organization is looking for volunteers to help clean up the rose garden at Walnut Hill Park before spring gets into full swing.

The Spring Spruce Up will run from 9 a.m. to noon on April 29. Friends of the Walnut Hill Rose Garden – a non-profit, volunteer run organization – is seeking help to prune rose bushes as well as edge and weed rose garden beds. Volunteers from the organization will be on hand to assist and answer questions.

Attendance is open to anyone, and participants are asked to bring their own bi-pass hand pruners, weeding tools and gloves.

Refreshments will be served.

According to Friends website, more than 200 volunteers helped plant more than 800 rose bushes in Walnut Hill Park in 2010. Seventy-five different varieties of roses were planted.
