Council subcommittees to discuss budget Thursday

NEW BRITAIN – Subcommittees of the Common Council will address different areas of Mayor Erin Stewart’s budget proposal for 2017-2018 on Thursday night at City Hall.

Beginning at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers, the Consolidated Subcommittee will discuss the proposed budget for the Public Works Department, the Recreation and Community Services Department, the budget for health and building services, the Board of Education, the Police Department, the Fire Department and the Support Services Department.

Following this subcommittee discussion, the Adminis-tration, Finance and Law Subcommittee will discuss the proposed budget for the mayor’s office, the corporation counsel, the city assessor, the Finance Department, the Human Resources Department, the town clerk, the Registrar’s Office and the tax collector.

After the Administration, Finance and Law Subcommittee finishes its discussion, the Planning, Zoning and Housing Subcommittee will discuss the proposed budget for the Department of Economic Development, the Department of Community Development, the Support Services Department/Facilities and Energy Division and the budget for health and building services.

Meetings will begin at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers on the second floor of City Hall at 27 West Main St. The Common Council will not adopt a final budget for the next fiscal year until its meeting June 1.
