NEW BRITAIN - State Sen. Terry Gerratana, D-New Britain, is exploring a potential run for state comptroller in 2018.

Terry for CT, Gerratana’s exploratory committee, will hold a fundraising reception from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the home of Adrienne Benjamin and Steve Horowitz, 288 Steele St.

Gerratana told The Herald that the idea of a potential run developed after she heard that current Comptroller Kevin Lembo is considering running for governor in 2018.

Gerratana has been a state senator since 2011 and was a state representative from 1993 to 2003. Gerratana is the co-chairwoman of the Public Health Committee and serves on the Appropriations and Judiciary committees.

“I believe that I have a particular skill set that would make me very prepared for the role of comptroller,” Gerratana said.

Gerratana said she has been an advocate for health care in the state during her tenures as a state senator and state representative, which she calls important for the position. Her experience on various committees has also prepared her for this position, she said.

Gerratana said this fundraiser, along with others in the future, represents an attempt to connect with people in the community and introduce her body of work and experience to residents.
