NEW BRITAIN - Officers responded to a loud disturbance outside Grand Pizza, 136 Main St., late Friday as the restaurant was hosting an open mic night, police said.

At 11:30 p.m., nearly a dozen officers had to intervene to quell a “public disturbance” that involved a woman yelling, police said.

Patrons saw a large number of people suddenly run outside and start fighting in front of the pizzeria. Some of the people involved appeared to have been chasing the woman, police said. Officers received reports that others had hopped over the fence behind the restaurant.

The disturbance lasted about 10 minutes, bystanders said. Officers dealt with people who were arguing outside on the street and then came inside to check out the crowd that had re-entered the restaurant. No arrests were made.

One man appeared injured and had blood on his face, a bystander said.
