NEW BRITAIN -The League of Women Voters will host a forum Saturday for mayoral and Common Council candidates to share their positions on key issues.

The forum will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Trinity-on-Main.

According to a release from the LWV, questions collected from the audience will be presented to the selected political party’s candidate by moderator Cindy White, a professor at Central Connecticut State University.

A coin toss will determine the party responding to the first question.

Republican Mayor Erin Stewart and Democratic challenger Merrill Gay will square off, and the 30 candidates for Common Council have all been invited.

Each party has endorsed two candidates for each of the city’s five wards and five candidates for the five available at-large seats.

Previously, the LWV has hosted an informational forum featuring Board of Education candidates. Last week, the New Britain Federation of Teachers hosted another forum for Stewart, Gay and school board candidates.

Saturday’s forum is free and open to the public. Parking is available at the Chestnut Street garage next to the New Britain police station.

Trinity-on-Main is at 69 W. Main St.

The municipal election is Tuesday, Nov. 7.
