NEWINGTON - Two people were arrested after they allegedly robbed a New Britain man who wanted to patronize a prostitute at a Berlin Turnpike motel Wednesday night.

The victim of the alleged robbery called police at around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday to report he had been robbed by a man with a handgun at the Grantmoor Motor Lodge at 3000 Berlin Turnpike.

Officers arrived to find the victim, Michael Nappi, 34, of 123 Green St., New Britain, with injuries as if he had been in a fight.

Nappi told police he had been robbed by a man with a lot of tattoos when he had returned to the motel Wednesday night to retrieve his wallet after leaving it with a woman who had agreed to have sex with him for $60 the evening before.

Nappi said he and the woman, Lorijoe Gineo, 32, of 454 Litchfield Drive, Windsor Locks, had agreed to meet at the motor lodge Tuesday night through an internet website used to find prostitutes.

They discussed a price but Nappi didn’t have any money so he went to an ATM to get the $60, he told police. When he returned to the motel, there was a “big black guy” but not Gineo in the hotel room, so he left.

It wasn’t until the next day that he realized he didn’t have his wallet so he texted Gineo to ask if she had it, Nappi told police. Gineo had the wallet and then gave Nappi instructions by text on how he could pick it up at the Grantmoor, Nappi said.

When he arrived at the motel Wednesday night, Gineo stalled him for 20 minutes by saying her cousin had the wallet in his car and was bringing it in. She then left the room to go find her “cousin,” a man named Matthew Erazo, 34, of the same address as Gineo, Nappi said. After a period of time passed, Nappi went into the hall and saw Erazo coming toward him with his wallet, he told police.

Erazo then shoved Nappi back into the hotel room, implied he had a gun and told the New Britain man to empty his pockets.

Nappi handed over $30 and his cell phone which were left on the bed but Erazo insisted he must have more, Nappi said.

He began to fear Erazo would kill him so Nappi tried to escape but the Windsor Locks man started hitting him in the back of the head and at one point pulled him back into the hotel room when he got the door open, Nappi told police. He finally broke away and ran to the lobby to call 911, he said.

Erazo was found at the scene curled up in a fetal position in a car pretending to be asleep. Gineo was also still at the motel. Police were able to confirm much of Nappi’s story through motel surveillance videos and accounts from other patrons.

Gineo was charged with conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery. She was held on $100,000 bond following her arraignment in New Britain Superior Court Thursday.

Erazo was charged with first-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit both counts, disorderly conduct, third-degree assault, threatening and first-degree unlawful restraint.

Police noted on the arrest report that they would seek an arrest warrant charging Gineo with prostitution and Nappi with patronizing a prostitute.
