SOUTHINGTON - Two workers suffered minor injuries in a fire Sunday afternoon at Rex Forge in Plantsville.

Firefighters were sent to the factory, at 355 Atwater St., around 2 p.m., where they found heavy smoke coming from vents and doorways at the rear of the building.

“They found a large machine press engulfed in fire,” Deputy Fire Chief Scott DiBattista said.

Firefighters contained the flames and the fire was reported knocked down around 2:30 p.m.

The street was closed for part of the afternoon but reopened before sunset.

The employees, who were not identified, were treated at an area hospital, DiBattista said.

The Bristol, Meriden and Cheshire fire department’s assisted Southington’s in the response.
