A precinct in Berlin is having its vote totals in the Nov. 7 elections audited after having being randomly chosen by the Connecticut secretary of the state.

District 2, American Legion, 154 Porters Pass, Berlin, was randomly chosen, along with 32 other precincts - 5 percent of the 677 precincts using an optical scanners to read marked paper ballots.

District 1, Willard School, 1088 Norton Road, Berlin, and Plantsville School, 79 Church St., Southington, were among 15 precincts chosen as alternates.

The audit is required by Connecticut General Statute 9-320f. Precincts that are already part of a recount are exempt from audit.

“This is really important because the public needs to know and be sure that our elections are transparent and fair,” said Secretary of the State Denise Merrill at the drawing of the precincts at Wethersfield High School Tuesday.
