NEW BRITAIN-The 23rd annual Hospital for Special Care (HSC) Ivan Lendl Golf Classic announced Thursday its honorary chairman for this year’s event as well as a change of venue.
James Mahoney, CPA (certified public accountant) and managing partner of Mahoney Sabol CPAs and Advisors, has been named the honorary chairman.
The golf tournament, which is planned for May 21, will be held at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, after previously held at the Wethersfield Country Club.
TPC River Highlands is the same location where the Travelers Championship is held annually.
“With support and leadership from our longtime board member Jim Mahoney, as well as our friends at Travelers, we’ve been able to bring the tournament to TPC River Highlands this year making this one of the truly elite charity tournaments in the state,” Lynn Ricci, president and CEO of Hospital for Special Care, said.
Each year the tournament raises funds for the hospital’s Ivan Lendl Adaptive Sports Camp and year-round adaptive sports programs.
Youth ages 6-19 that are living with physical disabilities are provided with instruction in a variety of adaptive sports. Specialized adaptive equipment such as sport wheelchairs are provided to allow individuals to perform at different levels of independence and ability.
More than $1.8 million has been raised to support these programs through the Ivan Lendl Golf Classic over the past 22 years, according to Hospital for Special Care.
“While I am honored to be recognized at this year’s golf classic, I am truly privileged to have gotten to know HSC’s patients and athletes through the years,” Mahoney said.
