NEW BRITAIN – Those looking to cool off in the summer heat don’t need to wait much longer as the city’s two pools will open for the season next weekend.
Mayor Erin Stewart, and Parks and Recreation Chairman Patrick Dorsey announced Tuesday that the New Britain Parks and Recreation Department will be opening AW Stanley and Willow Brook Pools on Saturday, June 16 for the 2018 season.
Daily entrance fees are $3 for youths 17 years of age or younger and $4 for adults 18 years of age and older. Children five years old and younger are free. New Britain residents can save money by buying a Family Season Pool Pass. Passes are $30 for an individual and $50 for a family.
Recreation Swim will begin at 1 p.m. and end at 4:45 p.m. Family Swim will open at 6:15 p.m. and end at 7:45 p.m. Bathing suits are required for admission on to the pool deck for every patron. Patrons must be 7 years of age or older to attend Recreation Swim or otherwise accompanied by a person 14 years of age or older. Patrons must be 14 years of age or older to attend this swim or otherwise accompanied by an adult of 18 years of age or older.
The New Britain Parks and Recreation Department is also offering swimming lessons which will be held at both pools. Lessons cost $20 per session for residents and $30 per session for non-residents. Lessons offered range from Parent and Tot classes to Level 6 Fitness Swimmer. Morning lessons will be held from 11:15a.m. to 12 p.m. and afternoon lessons will be held from 5 p.m. to 5:40 p.m. Lessons will take place Monday thru Friday beginning on Monday, June 18. A total of 3 two week sessions will be offered starting on June 18.
Pool passes can be purchased at the New Britain Parks and Recreation office located in City Hall from 8:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on weekdays. For more information on swimming lessons, call the department’s office at 860-826-3360.
