NEW BRITAIN -Registration for the 31st annual ShopRite Nutmeg State Games is open and events are filling fast.
The city will be hosting the games for the 10th consecutive year. Events will run from July 13 through Aug. 4.
The Nutmeg State Games are expected to draw well over 7,000 athletes, 1,000 volunteers and more than 25,000 spectators.
For the games, the state will be divided into four regions: North, South, East, and West. Competitions will be hosted in New Britain and throughout Central Connecticut in over 30 of the state’s top athletic facilities.
The athletes’ residency will determine in which region they will compete.
Between team and individual competitions, 21 sports will be offered.
Team sports will include baseball, basketball, fast-pitch softball, field hockey, ice hockey, lacrosse, roller hockey, and soccer.
All team sports tournaments will have a round robin/pool play format, with a guarantee of three or four games.
Individual sports offered include archery, BMX, cycling criterium, fencing, figure skating, golf, gymnastics, judo, pickleball, shooting, swimming, track and field, and wrestling.
The Nutmeg State Games seek to promote and reinforce the Olympic spirit of the Connecticut community through competition.
Registration is filling for certain sports. Fast-pitch softball online registration is sold out and weightlifting registration is closed.
