The Connecticut State Police have two upcoming events; one aimed at recruiting women officers, and the other an annual youth week training camp.
On Wednesday, April 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Connecticut Police Academy, 285 Preston Ave., Meriden, the state police Recruitment and Selection Unit will be holding a “Women in Policing” informational session.
Women troopers from patrol and specialized units, including major crimes, firearms training, and K-9, will discuss their background, current assignment, challenges and experience during recruit training, and life as a Connecticut State Trooper, a release announcing the event said.
Guests will have an opportunity to speak with troopers individually or in small groups.
The information session, open to everyone, is geared toward women who have an interest in law enforcement.
The state police are accepting applications for the position of trooper trainee. The application period will close on May 31.

The second event will run from July 28 through Aug. 3. The American Legion Department of Connecticut and Connecticut State Police will hold the annual State Police Youth Week at the Connecticut State Police Training Academy in Meriden.
Youth Week is a law enforcement course for high school students completing their junior year in 2019 at an accredited high school in Connecticut.

Completed applications, including personal statements, letter of recommendation, and $125 fee, must be received by Friday, May 3, 2019. The application packet and payment must be submitted to The American Legion Department of Connecticut, 864 Wethersfield Ave., Hartford, CT 06114.
