The Connecticut Humane Society (CHS) will be holding their annual “Clear the Shelters” event this Saturday, Aug. 17.

All CHS locations including Newington, Waterford and Westport will be participating in the one-day adoption event happening rain or shine from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

All feline and canine adoptions will be $50 off the regular fees.

This brings the one-day only fees down to the following prices:

Puppies (2-6 months): $395

Adolescents (7-12 months): $225

Adults (1-7 years): $100

Seniors (8+ years): $50

Kittens (2-6 months): $250

Adolescents (7-12 months): $150

Adults (1-7 years): $90

Seniors (8+ years): $30

Hamsters, mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets, chinchillas, several species of birds and other exotic animals will also be available for adoption at their usual rates.

Connecticut locations will be participating in the National Humane Society event that is put on in collaboration with NBC.

Other shelters around the state will have their own discounts and specials as well.

At the Newington Humane Society location, just off the Berlin Turnpike, there will be giveaways all day, with various sponsors giving out promotional items.

Susan Wallschlager, Manager of Communication and Marketing for CHS, said this is a big day for both pets and potential pet owners.

“The pets have probably been through difficult times, and the people are proud to say ‘I rescued,’” Wallschlager said.

Wallschlager wanted to stress that the usual adoption process will take place on Saturday, just with reduced rates.

All of the animals up for adoption will be posted on the CHS website on Friday night, with a preview of the pet’s personality.

CHS adoption counselors will help you match your lifestyle and preferences to the right pet.

Pets adopted from CHS have already been seen by the staff veterinary team, have a medical record, are current on age-appropriate vaccines and are current on parasite preventatives.

Cats and dogs are microchipped and when you adopt from CHS you receive an offer for a free trial of pet insurance.

Also, if you run into questions or problems, or just need medical records reprinted, CHS is available for support after you take your pet home.

A full list of benefits that come with adopting through CHS can be found on their website .

You can also reach CHS by phone at 860-594-4500, or through any of their social media pages.
