PLYMOUTH - Three dogs are dead following a vicious attack that left a woman “torn up” in Terryville on Monday.

Police had to use “lethal force” toward the three Mastiff-type dogs, which attacked their owner Monday afternoon on Eastview Road. A fourth dog that was involved in the attack was not killed.

The woman was taken to an area hospital for severe injuries. Her condition Tuesday was unclear.

Police were called to the area around 2:20 p.m. after a man who lives near Fall Mountain Lake said he saw the woman, who has not been identified, being attacked across the lake. The man said he originally thought she was just messing around with what he described as a “bunch of big dogs.”

“I didn’t realize she was screaming,” the caller said, according to 911 recordings released by police.

“She looks like she’s torn up,” the man said, as he looked through a pair of binoculars.

The caller added, “She’s moving, she got away from the dogs,” before telling the dispatcher that the animals were following her as she went to a neighbor’s for help.

“She does look like a mess.”

Officers responded to the area and were met by four loose dogs with a “vicious demeanor,” police said in a news release.

Police contained the dogs and asked neighbors to stay inside. Officers shot at least one dog, saying they had to use lethal force against a total of three animals.

Police said they are still investigating the incident.
