BRISTOL – Bristol Health officials believe they offer the best breast health care in the state, and they say this enormous accomplishment wouldn’t be possible without the help of the Beekley Corporation.

Beekley on Wednesday donated $165,000 that will go toward the hospital’s Beekley Center for Breast Health and Wellness. The donation, raised through Beekley’s 2019 and 2021 golf tournaments, as well as its Designer Purse Bingo event in 2019, is helping with the wellness center’s wish list for a radiofrequency identification localization system; a specimen radiography system; and a 3D tomosynthesis mammography machine.

“All I can say is ‘wow,’” Bristol Health President and CEO Kurt Barwis told more than two dozen employees of the Beekley Corporation on Wednesday at its Prestige Lane location. “I can’t tell you how much we appreciate this.”

Barwis also told employees that the breast health and wellness center is as advanced as it can be “because of you.”

Dr. Elizabeth Brady, the medical director of the Beekley Center for Breast Health and Wellness at Bristol Hospital, said Wednesday that, when she joined the center in late 2020, she told Barwis it had the making of being the best breast center in the state.

“I can’t thank you all enough because we’re there,” Brady told Beekley Corporation employees. “I am beside myself,” Brady said.

The Beekley Center opened in October 2013, delivering breast health treatment in a spa-like setting. It was made possible by a $1 million donation from the Beekley Family Foundation.

“I know you all know we work for a company that makes a difference,” said Ayn LaPlant, president and CEO of the Beekley Corporation.

“I’m a patient, and I would never go anywhere else” LaPlant said of the Beekley Center. “This is the only place I would go for my mammogram.”
