WALDORF, Md. - Southern Maryland’s Brian Grening held the New Britain Bees scoreless over the first seven innings, helping his team earn a 2-1 victory on Sunday at Regency Furniture Stadium.

Mike Lee was saddled with the loss for New Britain despite allowing just five hits and two earned runs over seven full innings.

He didn’t help his own cause, though, giving up back-to-back two-out walks to Southern Maryland’s Zach Wilson and Michael Snyder in the first inning, then hitting Cory Vaughn with a pitch to load the bases and allowing a run to score on a wild pitch.

Lee also gave up a leadoff home run to Vaughn in the seventh inning to give the Blue Crabs a 2-0 cushion.

Consecutive two-out singles by New Britain’s Yusuke Kajimoto, James Skelton and Jovan Rosa gave the Bees their only run in the top of the eighth.
