Bristol Senior League Baseball Team will begin play in state championship tonight

The Bristol Senior League Baseball Team, sponsored by Edgewood Little League of Bristol, has advanced to the state championship round of tournament play and will play its first game at that level tonight.

Bristol opened its quest for a sixth straight District 5 title by beating Yalesville 18-4 on July 5.

Noah Gibson pitched 4 2/3 innings while striking out six to earn the win, while Anthony Marrotti came in to close out the game.

John Pierce led the offense with four hits, including a towering home run. Gibson and Marrotti each had three hits, while Derek Mason, Cameron Ohara, Will Pierce, Bryce Curtin and Carson Sassu all hit safely.

Game 2 was on Saturday at Barnes Field on Mix Street. Edgewood beat Silver City of Meriden, 16-4.

Trevor Mays started on the mound and pitched six innings to earn the win, while striking out four, and Marrotti pitched a scoreless seventh inning.

Mays, Sassu and Curtin led the offense with three hits each. Marrotti, Ohara, Mason, Spensor Sinkowich and Gabe Bartolome also had hits to pace Edgewood.

Game 3 was Monday at Barnes Field, with Edgewood needing one win to claim the title. Its opponent was again Yalesville, which won games on Saturday and Sunday over Berlin and Meriden to get back to the final.

Edgewood won 11-1 to claim its sixth straight district title.

Marrotti started and gave up two hits with five strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings, while Sassu came in to close it out.

Curtin and Marrotti had two hits each, while James Hall, John Pierce and Mays all contributed to the offense.

Edgewood begins state play on Thursday in Killingly against Plainfield at Owen Bell Park, starting at 5:30 p.m. Game 2 is Friday in Killingly against the host team.

The winner of the state tournament - which Edgewood has won three of the last four years - advances to the Eastern Regional in West Deptford, N.J., July 20- 26.

The winner of the Eastern Regional advances to the Senior League World Series (ages 15-16) in Easley, S.C.
