WEST HARTFORD - The Goodwin Tech girls volleyball team was just one win away from clinching the CSC Tournament title Saturday night.

The Gladiators, however, ran into Cheney Tech and were swept 3-0.

“We could not maintain leads in all three sets,” Goodwin head coach Paul Soucy said. “The third set was the most disappointing.”

The Gladiators fell thanks to set scores with set scores of 27-25, 25-22 and 25-22.

“No player stood out during the match,” Soucy said. “With all three sets being close, we could find a way to win. Our serving let us down tonight and when we struggle from behind the service line we find it difficult to win.”

Goodwin Tech will now head into the state tournament with a 18-5 overall record.

“I am proud of this team,” Soucy said. “We just picked a bad night to struggle.”
