NEW BRITAIN - Time is running out to register for the Nutmeg State Games cycling criterium.
The pre-registration deadline to compete is Thursday by 6 p.m. on BikeReg.com - www.bikereg.com/shoprite nutmeg-state-games-criterium. Riders can also register onsite the day of the race for an additional $10.00 fee.
The criterium is set to take place on Saturday at Walnut Hill Park in New Britain and will kick off the start of the 2018 Nutmeg Games.
The criterium continues to attract a high number of riders each year. In 2017, the event had more than 400, who traveled from New England, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania to complete.
“We are expecting around 500+ riders for this year’s race and believe that the “Crit” has the potential to grow significantly each year and continue to develop into one of the premier races in New England,” said Patrick Fisher, Executive Director of the Connecticut Sport Management Group, Inc., in a statement “This year, USA Cycling Officials will be on motorcycles both leading and trailing the participants in each race.”
The event will also have a new promoter in Laura Summers, who serves on the Board of Directors for the New England Bike Racing Association (NEBRA). Summers has developed a brand new event format and has added junior races as well.
Residents of New Britain planning to visit the park on Saturday should be aware of the high amounts of bike traffic that will be impeding the walkways for the entirety of the day.
