BRISTOL - It was a battle of unbeaten teams Tuesday afternoon at Breen Field and Rhode Island pitcher Paige Cote was steady as her team beat Delaware 3-2.
Cote pitched the entire game for Rhode Island and didn’t allow an earned run, getting four strikeouts with five hits and one walk.
The No. 2 and No. 4 hitters for Rhode Island, Gabrielle Jeffrey and Sofia Marella, each had 2-for-3 performances.
Marella, Samantha Healy and Gabrielle Valletta scored the three runs for Rhode Island.
Delaware starting pitcher Camryn Ehlers continued her strong performance on the mound and at the plate. She had five strikeouts and allowed three earned runs in her six innings. Ehlers also added a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.
Destiny Mitchell, Aniyah Blake and Bella Scurci had the other hits in the game for Rhode Island. Laniya Lewis and Olivia Hitchens scored the two Delaware runs.
With the win, Rhode Island will face Pennsylvania today at 1 p.m.
