CROMWELL – The Travelers Championship begins next week at TPC River Highlands, and the tournament announced on Monday morning that two more top golfers will be part of the field when the action kicks off.

John Rahm and Webb Simpson, both ranked in the top-10 in the Official World Golf Ranking, have both committed to the Travelers, now giving the event the top five golfers in the world and eight of the top 10.

Rahm is the No. 2 ranked golfer in the world, behind only Rory McIlroy, who has already committed to the Travelers. The top-ranked golfers for the Travelers are now McIlroy (No. 1), Rahm, Justin Thomas (No. 3), Brooks Koepka (No. 4), Dustin Johnson (No. 5), Patrick Reed (No. 6), Patrick Cantlay (No. 7) and Simpson, who is ranked No. 9.

With Rahm in the field, the Travelers’ field will be loaded with some of the best golfers who are easing back into competition after sports were shut down across the country due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are extremely excited to have everyone in the top five of the world ranking and eight of the top 10 join us this year,” said Travelers Championship tournament director Nathan Grube. “Jon and Webb have each won multiple times on the PGA TOUR and will be tremendous additions to one of our best player fields ever.”

Rahm is a three-time winner on the PGA Tour, and has six victories on the European Tour. He has made six PGA Tour starts this season, and four of them resulted in top-10 finishes. He came in second at the Farmers Insurance Open and tied for third at the World Golf Championships-Mexico Championship. His most recent PGA Tour win came in 2019 at the Zurich Classic in New Orleans. In his history at TPC River Highlands, he made the cut at the 2015 Travelers Championship as an amateur and tied for 25th place in 2016.

Simpson recently picked up his sixth PGA Tour win, taking first earlier this season at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. In six starts this season, Simpson has picked up four top-10 finishes, including a second-place finish at the RSM Classic and a third-place mark at the Sony Open. His first major championship in 2012, when he won the U.S. Open in 2012, and later won The Players Championship in 2018. Simpson is familiar with TPC River Highlands, having made nine starts at the course, making the cut eight times and trying for fifth in 2013.

“I’m thrilled to have both of these players coming back to TPC River Highlands,” said Andy Bessette, executive vice President and chief administrative officer at Travelers, in Monday’s statement. “Jon is a player we supported with tournament exemptions back when he was an amateur and was getting his professional career started. Webb is another player we built a great relationship with when he was a young PGA Tour pro, and he even played us the week after winning the U.S. Open in San Francisco, just like he said he would.”

Rahm, Simpson and the rest of the field will kick off June 25 and run through June 28. The event will be available on TV only due to the coronavirus, and can be seen on the Golf Channel and CBS.
