HARTFORD -- Fresh off a victory at the PGA Championship last month, Phil Mickelson announced his commitment to play in the 2021 Travelers Championship on Thursday. Rickie Fowler and Tony Finau also joined the field on Wednesday.

Mickelson became the oldest player to win a major championship with his victory at Kiawah Island in South Carolina at 50 years old. The win gave the lefty his sixth major title and first since 2013, when he claimed the Open Championship.

“Phil has cemented his place among the very best to ever play the game of golf, and we are excited to have him join us this year,” Travelers Championship Tournament Director Nathan Grube, said. “He’s been a fan favorite around the world for decades, winning every step of the way and thrilling spectators with his play and accomplishments. This is fantastic news for this year’s tournament.”

The World Golf Hall of Fame member is also the only player to win twice at TPC River Highlands, winning in 2001 and 2002. Mickelson has secured 45 Tour victories throughout his career.

“When a lot of fans think about golf, they think of Phil Mickelson, and I know they’ll be rooting hard for him again at TPC River Highlands,” Andy Bessette, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at Travelers, said. “Winning the PGA Championship at 50 is a tremendous accomplishment. I know Phil is excited to return to Connecticut and play in front of the fans who have always supported him.”

Fowler and Finau, a pair of PGA Tour stalwarts, will be heading to Connecticut as well, each looking to break through in the win column this year.

Fowler finished in eighth-place at the PGA in May for his best finish of the season while Finau has earned two second-place finishes this season.

“Tony and Rickie will certainly draw large crowds to TPC River Highlands,” Grube said. “They’re both familiar with the course, and we’re thrilled that they’re adding the Travelers Championship to their schedules again this year.”

Fowler’s 2015 win at THE PLAYERS Championship has been the highlight of his career that also includes four more wins on Tour, an appearance at the 2016 Olympics, and stints on four Ryder Cup teams and three Presidents Cup teams.

Finau is currently the No. 14 golfer in the Official World Golf Ranking and will be looking for his second ever victory at the Travelers. A Puerto Rico Open title serves as Finau’s only win on Tour.

Mickelson, Fowler and Finau will join a player field that includes defending champion Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Cantlay, Brooks Koepka, Patrick Reed, Paul Casey, Marc Leishman, Justin Rose and Bubba Watson.

This summer’s tournament will be held June 21-27 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut.

Spectators will be allowed on-site this year, beginning on Wednesday, June 23. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
