Fall sports will be a go for the 2021 season as the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference announced its schedule for the first complete fall season since 2019 on Monday.
High school football returns after a year-long layoff, with OTA's scheduled to run from Aug. 12-14, while teams can open practice on Aug. 21.
Opening night will be Sept. 9 and teams will play 10 games before playoffs begin Nov. 30. The state championships will occur on Dec. 11.
New Britain will travel to Simsbury for its first game on Sept. 9, then host East Hartford on Sept. 17 for its home opener.
The Hurricanes will look to improve upon their 3-7 record in 2019 this upcoming season under first-year head coach Isaiah Boddie. Boddie replaced Tebucky Jones, who stepped down in 2019 after nine years at the helm.
The remaining fall sports (boys and girls soccer, cross country, field hockey, girls swimming, and girls volleyball) can start practices on Aug. 26 and games on Sept. 9.
Southington girls soccer were Class LL state runner-ups in 2019 and finished with an 18-1-2 record. The Blue Knights will begin the 2021 season with a game at Conard on Sept. 9 and will host Glastonbury on Sept. 24 for a rematch of the 2019 Class LL state title game.
The Bristol Central and Terryville boys cross country teams also were state runner-ups in 2019. The Rams fell to Xavier in Class L while the Kangaroos were beaten by Bolton in Class S.
Bristol Central's first meet will be on Sept. 14 when it races Platt and Berlin at Hubbard Park while Terryville is scheduled to start on Sept. 14 at Northwestern in a tri-meet against Northwestern and Wamogo.
Last year, team schedules were reduced to 12 games for every sport except football and there were no state tournaments.
