Sports Roundup: New Britain boys basketball ends losing skid with rout of Plainville

PLAINVILLE - The New Britain boys basketball team ended its eight game losing streak in convincing fashion against Plainville on Thursday night. The Hurricanes used a 30 point second quarter to put the game away at half time and eventually won 79-25.

New Britain (2-9) was paced by Jahfari Newman who tied for a game-high with 16 points. Daniel Kownacki and Jordan Williams were the other two Hurricanes to score in double figures as they scored 11 and 10 points respectively.

Plainville (0-11) got a solid performance from Brady Callahan as he scored 16 points, which included two three-pointers, but the next highest scorer for the Blue Devils was Jared Demons, who had five points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Portland 49, Goodwin Tech 19: The Goodwin Tech girls basketball team scored only one point in the first quarter of its game against Portland and struggled to score for the rest of the game as well in a 49-19 loss. Paola Barbosa was the leading scorer for the Gladiators as she had nine points. The next highest scorer for Goodwin Tech was Joarielys Martinez who had five and hit a three-pointer. The Gladiators are now 5-7 on the season.
