November begins this week and that means the regular season for most fall sports is at its end. Some sports will have their conference tournaments taking place this week, while some teams still have regular season games to play and others are preparing for the state tournament.

Not much is going on in local sports on Monday, but the one game scheduled is Southington boys soccer playing a road game against Northwest Catholic. The Blue Knights are 8-4-2 on the season and have already qualified for the state tournament, but this will be their final tune up before that tournament begins. Northwest Catholic will not be in the tournament, as it is 4-8-1, but it will still be senior day for several of its players, so there will be plenty to play for.

On Tuesday the schedule beefs up a little bit and one of the biggest games is in girls soccer. Plainville (4-8-3) will host Berlin (10-4) in what will be a huge game for the Blue Devils. Plainville needs to win to qualify for the state tournament. Berlin has already qualified for the tournament and has lost just four games so far this season, so it will certainly be a tough test for the Blue Devils.

Also taking place on Tuesday is the first round of the CCC volleyball tournament and the quarterfinals of the CSC volleyball tournament. Plainville and Southington will both host CCC tournament games, while Goodwin Tech will be playing in the CSC tournament.

On Wednesday Newington’s girls soccer team will play its final regular season game against Wethersfield. The Indians have already qualified for the state tournament, as they have 11 wins this season, but this will be their last warm up before that begins.

Newington’s field hockey team (8-5-1) is also in action on Wednesday, as it will be closing out its regular season with a road matchup against Northwest Catholic. The field hockey team has also already qualified for the state tournament. Newington has lost its last two matches since its six-game winning streak, so it will want to get back on the right side of the ledger before the state tournament begins.

Thursday has just one regular season game on the schedule and that is Berlin girls soccer hosting Wethersfield in its regular season finale. The Redcoats have already qualified for the state tournament with 10 wins this season.

Football is once again in the spotlight this Friday as there are several local teams taking the field. The majority of the local teams will be on the road, but Newington (3-4) will host Bristol Central (4-3). The Indians are coming off a massive upset win over Middletown and will be looking for their third straight victory. Undefeated Southington (7-0) will be in East Hartford looking to increase its win streak to eight games on Friday night as well.

In cross country the State Open will be taking place at Wickham Park on Friday afternoon. Several local runners will be competing in those meets.

Saturday features just one game and it is on the gridiron. Plainville (0-7) will be visiting East Catholic in the afternoon. The Blue Devils have yet to win a game this season and are coming off a 49-0 loss at the hands of their rival, Berlin.
